History of the Club

Established in 1996, under the name Bekwai Youth Football Academy (BYFA), the football club was the only indigenous second tier club in the Amansie East Municipality, since 1957. It is a local club with support from all opinion leaders in the municipality including the Nana Bekwaihene (The Bekwai Chief), the Municipal Chief Executive, the First Deputy Speaker of the Republic of Ghana, and the Member of Parliament for the Bekwai Constituency.

Formed as a Colts club in 1996 with over 80 talented football kids, the club organized the first-ever Colts league in Bekwai. After 6 years of Colts’ football, the club registered for the district’s 3rd Division League in 2002 and stayed in the league for 8 years before gaining promotion into the Regional Division Two League.

After the team’s  promotion to the Division Two League, the club set a target of qualifying to the National Division One League, which was eventually achieved in 2016.

During the club’s journey from colts to the Division Two league, many players came along who ended up playing for top tier clubs in Ghana.

With a passion for football, two brothers Divine Kyei Boadu and Paul Kyei Baffour decided to acquire Bekwai Youth Academy and subsequently rebranded the team to Nations Football Club. Henceforth, in the next football season (2022/2023), the team will be playing their home matches at the refurbished  Kwame Kyei Sports Complex at Abrankese.

We at Nations Football Club aim at creating employment for the growing youth, whilst aiding to unearth their talents with their passion.

The current goal of the club is to qualify for the elite division of Ghana football.

CLUB PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Today, this team serves as an emblem of new beginnings. It serves as a product of a carefully nurtured dream, well crafted, in high hopes of elevating Nations Football Club, to a platform where the talented youth of Ghana will not only envision, but attain a bright future through football, and ultimately align our club as a reference point in football development in Ghana and beyond.

One of our main goals as a team was to qualify for the elite division of the Ghana Premier League, and we can proudly say that we are the Champions of the 2022/2023 Season of the Division One League, Zone 2. But this could not have been achieved without the collective effort of the technical team, players, supporters, administrative staff, and the management of Nations FC.
This 2022/2023 season has been a successful one for Nations FC. Other than our qualification into the Ghana Premier League, we set up a technical team with diverse backgrounds who possess years of experience in the game. The success of the team has been pivoted by the diligence, hard work, and determination of the technical team.

Our technical team consisted of a technical director, head coach, assistant coach, fitness coach, goalkeepers’ trainer, video analyst, doctors, and a masseuse. They have collectively assisted in making informed decisions after every game played for the improvement of the team as the season progressed, which has evidently brought us this far.

The team also focused on diversity through the inclusion of foreign players. Our players are young and talented and have done an exceptional job this season. They have played 30 matches and have recorded 22 wins, 6 draws, and 2 defeats, amassing 72 points – winning is indeed from within! These players presented excitement, enticing, and objective-driven football and we intend to maintain this attitude.
We have also built a strong fanbase in Abrankese, Kutu-nase, Bosomtwe, Gyakye, Apotogya, Swedru, and its environs; and have offered support to our fans and our community by creating employment opportunities for them. Moreover, our supporters have been exemplary throughout the season by standing by the team, even in times when the results were not favorable. This shows that the supporters have taken a huge step towards a professional supporters’ club and for that, we would like to acknowledge and show our gratitude for their all-around support.
Also, the invisible work performed by the administrative staff was a necessary ingredient to our success in qualifying for the Premier League. All the hard work behind the scenes such as with logistics and transportation, payments, and communication with team functions and fans, cannot all be seen when the points are won.
Furthermore, our success today could not have been possible without the management of Nations FC. We sacrificed a lot to be where we are today. It was a long, tiring, and sometimes frightening journey but we stood tall in courage and resisted the challenges.
As this is Nations FC’s first time playing in the Ghana Premier League, we acknowledge that this road is not going to be an easy one, and that is where we all come in again with the commitment to excel. We want the team to remain in the Premier League – that is a goal we will never forfeit. Thus, we must do all we can to stay where we belong.
The goal for our team is to build a strong and well-structured team; this would mean having to develop the existing structures to stay competitive. This is the time to start building Nations FC as a professional team of world-class standards.
We will continue to develop the youth team that will feed into our first team. This process will be based on advanced methods for player development, making our players marketable. We also continue to seek sponsorship deals both locally and internationally and form strategic alliances with clubs across the globe.

We aim to complete our training facilities and additional amenities in our 12,000-seater ultra-modern stadium at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex. Collectively, we will continue to develop our unique style of play, promote youth talent, and provide long-term sustainability for the team. If we are to repeat the success we have achieved and more, we must come together as one for Nations Football Club to become a benchmark for football development in Ghana and beyond!
To God be the glory!

Plans are far advanced in the completion of a 12,000-seater ultra-modern stadium located in Abrankese in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region.

This stadium will serve as an all-inclusive facility with a training ground, workout station, housing, etc.

This infrastructure development is in line with our vision to create a platform to identify and sharpen young talent.

We intend to cultivate strong relationships and strategic partnerships with different stakeholders across Africa and the globe to create synergies. The partnership is at the heart of our club and for this reason, we are open to partnerships and investments that will be mutually beneficial.
